The AHP appoints Fadi Maalouf as Leader of the AHP’s North African Regional Chapter

Dubai (UAE), Port Louis (Mauritius) - 2nd of August 2023

Africa is a large continent with 55 nations and a total population of approximately 1.2 billion people. The continent measures about 5,000 miles (8,000 km) from North to South and about 4,600 miles (7,400 km) from East to West. Africa is highly diverse with significant region-specific characteristics, different cultures, societies, economies and languages. In order to work effectively and efficiently across the African continent, the African Hydrogen Partnership (the AHP) General Assembly and the AHP Board have decided to establish a number of Regional Chapters.

The North African Regional Chapter is the first AHP Regional Chapter to be established and it will be led by Mr. Fadi Maalouf, CTO at the MENA Hydrogen Alliance, an initiative of Dii Desert Energy (a member organization of the AHP). Mr. Maalouf brings to the AHP huge practical experience in the renewable energy and hydrogen sectors in the Middle East and North Africa regions and a passion for green and also geologic (natural) hydrogen. He advises corporations on comprehensive hydrogen technology strategic business planning, techno-commercial due diligence, capital budgeting and implementation at all levels with a focus on P&L and achieving business success and profitability.

The AHP Board has formally appointed Mr. Fadi Maalouf as Regional Chapter Leader of the AHP’s North African Regional Chapter and is greatly looking forward to working with him.

Fadi Maalouf (CTO at Dii Desert Energy and MENA Hydrogen Alliance | Regional Leader AHP Northern African Regional Chapter) stated,

“We are very pleased to establish a fruitful collaboration with AHP. We plan to capitalize on our Green Electrons and Green Molecules Knowledge Base, thus enabling talent connection to drive innovation, project opportunity creation and hence energy transition implementation acceleration across Africa.”

Cornelius Matthes (CEO at the Dii Desert Energy and MENA Hydrogen Alliance) said,

“Fadi has contributed with some outstanding initiatives over the past seven years as CTO in Dii Desert Energy. The toolkit for project developers, with the groundbreaking cost models to calculate the levelized cost of electricity, followed by storage, hydrogen, ammonia, e-fuels and most lately the combined solar + wind model were all unique innovations in the market. As a veteran of the PV industry with almost 30 years of experience, he will for sure make some special contributions for this important cooperation.”

Richard Kiplagat (Chairman of the AHP Advocacy Task Force | Managing Director at africa practice) stated,

“As the Regional Chapter Leader of the AHP’s North African Regional Chapter Fadi will be an invaluable resource for all of AHP advocacy work. Given that some of the earliest adopters of Green Hydrogen on the continent are from the North African region their experiences and knowledge will form an integral part of our conversations with regulatory and policy leaders. I look forward to working closely with Fadi and warmly welcome him to the AHP family.”

Marie Espitalier-Noël (AHP Director and Association Board Member | Funding and Financing Manager at Hydrogen Europe) said,

“We are truly delighted to have Fadi Maalouf join us as the leader of the AHP's North African Regional Chapter. His extensive experience in the renewable energy and PtX sectors, specifically in the production of green hydrogen, ammonia, and e-fuels, builds on a rare combination of business acumen, technical knowledge, and financial acuity. This combination of skills will significantly bolster our collaborative efforts with financial institutions, project developers, and regulators to accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen in the region and thus enhance access to clean energy and mobility in Africa.”
