SOUTH AFRICA - The Hydrogen Valley Feasibility Study Report

The Hydrogen Valley Feasibility Study Report, an essential component of the Cabinet-approved National Hydrogen Society Roadmap, was commissioned by the Department of Science and Innovation in partnership with Anglo American Platinum, Bambili Energy and ENGIE.

The proposed Hydrogen Valley corridor will be an economic industrial project starting in Limpopo where platinum group metals are being mined, and extending through the larger region around Johannesburg, leading finally to Durban.

The feasibility study is intended to drive the planning, design, construction and commissioning of projects related to the development of a Hydrogen Valley in South Africa. It has identified nine hydrogen-related projects across the mobility, industrial and buildings sectors that could be used as a springboard for the establishment of a South African Hydrogen Valley corridor.

Speakers include the Director-General of Science and Innovation, Dr Phil Mjwara; Ms Natascha Viljoen, CEO of Anglo American Platinum; Ms Zanele Mavuso Mbatha, CEO of Bambili Energy; Ms Caroline Hillegeer, Chief Commercial Officer of ENGIE Hydrogen; Ms Mosa Tshabalala, CEO of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency; and Mr Thakhani Makhuvha, CEO of the Limpopo Economic Development Agency.
