IHFCA and AHP sign Memorandum of Understanding
Beijing, (China), Port Louis (Mauritius) - 7th February 2023
The African Hydrogen Partnership (AHP) and the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support future cooperation.
The AHP and IHFCA have agreed to work together on developing Hydrogen markets in Africa in close collaboration with the IHFCA and its members. They have also agreed to co-host meetings and conferences as well as conduct research on the Hydrogen industry, market, trade and policy matters.
AHP and IHFCA intend to agree on reciprocal membership. AHP will join IHFCA as an Executive Board Member Institute. IHFCA will seek to obtain approval from its members to join AHP before 31st December 2023.
Ms. Ju Wang, Secretary General at the IHFCA, said,
"Hydrogen is an essential driving impetus in energy transition towards a low carbon economy. Under the vision of global carbon neutrality, new innovative technologies need to be developed and the whole industry chain needs to be reshaped in order to achieve green and low-carbon development, and then to build a global shared new ecology and high-quality development pattern of hydrogen energy and FCV industries. Africa has abundant hydrogen energy resources and space for development, and the global double carbon goal cannot be achieved without Africa. As an international organisation, IHFCA is committed to promoting worldwide hydrogen collaboration and FCV rollout and commercialization, and helping to achieve the goal of global carbon neutrality. Therefore, we are more than pleased that we can reach an agreement with AHP to strengthen cooperation under the principle of "discuss, build and share" and to contribute to the promotion of the world's energy transition and the development of the hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry for mutual benefit. We hope that we can contribute to control global climate change and build a community of shared future for mankind, by IHFCA, AHP and many other related organisations, shoulder by shoulder, hand in hand."
Dr Innocent Uwuijaren, AHP Director and Chairman, said,
“The development of Green Hydrogen in Africa depends upon the widespread deployment of efficient and cost-effective hydrogen technology. The International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association, and in particular manufacturers in China, represents a significant number of key players in the Hydrogen and fuel cell industry. AHP believes that the IHFCA's role in working on harmonised global Hydrogen standards and providing technological capabilities is critical to accelerating deployments in Africa. A close collaboration with the IHFCA will facilitate the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors and expedite the large-scale commercialization of Green Hydrogen in Africa. We are delighted to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IHFCA which will allow us to co-host and co-organise relevant meetings in Africa in addition to AHP joining IHFCA as an Executive Board Member Institute. We look forward to a close co-operation in the future”.
