Cost of hydrogen tanks cut by 30% for stations for fuel-cell vehicles

THE ASAHI SHIMBUN reported, "Two companies have substantially lowered the cost of hydrogen storage tanks, a step that may speed up the establishment of refueling stations for the next-generation fuel-cell vehicles. Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. and Japan Steel Works Ltd. said the new tank, made only of steel, is about 30 percent less expensive than conventional products, many of which use costly carbon fiber to withstand high pressure.
